Matt Brabham made strong progress throughout the St. Petersburg Indy Lights weekend including a new course lap record during qualifying.

The pace was definitely on board the #83 Andretti Autosport machine with Brabham lapping quicker than the third placed car for much of the race.

Nevertheless, Brabham was locked in a fierce battle with 8Star Motorsport’s, Scott Hargrove.

“We had a better day today. We showed good speed again laptime-wise and we have made some improvements as the weekend has progressed. I just wish I had more time to get prepared. It has certainly been tough jumping in last minute and that showed early in the weekend. If we can make it to Long Beach and build on this weekend I have no doubt we will be up the front.” –Matt Brabham

Although he was quicker, Brabham couldn’t get a clear run to push past Hargrove. In the end, he settled for seventh.

Overall, it was a solid weekend for the youngster. Despite a limited preparation in the leadup to the event, he was able to walk away with the lap record and a good handle on the new generation Indy Lights machine.

Carlin Motorsports’ Ed Jones took his second successive victory today.

Brabham sits eighth on points with the next round being on April 19th at Long Beach, California.
