Sir Stirling Moss and Three Mercedes Racers to Reunite at Amelia Island

1955 Mercedes-Benz 300SLR

The organizers of the Amelia Island Concour d’Elegance have announced that Sir Stirling Moss will be honored at the 20th anniversary event and will be reunited with three of the extraordinary Mercedes-Benz racers he drove in 1955.

The first is the 300SLR that propelled Moss and his navigator Denis Jenkinson to victory in the Italian Mille Miglia with a record time that still stands some 60 years latter.

The second is the W196 “slipper” Grand Prix car with which Moss won his first Formula 1 World Championship race at his home Grand Prix at Aintree, England.

The Mercedes-Benz W196 streamliner which Moss drove in his final F1 race for Mercedes at Monza will also make an appearance. This marks the first time the 300SLR, the W196 Grand Prix and Streamliner cars will be displayed together.

With Sir Stirling and this extraordinary collection from Mercedes’ 1955 championship-season, the 20th anniversary Amelia Concours will be an historic and memorable event. Sir Stirling set us on our course in 1996 and he’ll launch us to more successful decades with the reunion of this unprecedented and historically significant trio of his victorious Grand Prix and sports cars.
